Great Audio Tip I registered again and would like a copy of that PDF Anthony Francese was talking about with his equipment. I listened to the show on audio on the way out to Tom’s for our podcast and listened to the second half on the way back. I found it very informative and went right out and bought a direct box at Guitar Center (although they didn’t have the brand he mentioned anymore). I used it this weekend and it sounded great through the headphones. I will be loading the footage this week, but I expect that tip alone to improve our reception audio greatly. Thanks again, Bill
Michael Hello Kathy and Al, I recently decided to make the plunge into wedding videography and came across your excellent podcasts. I'm also a recent podcaster (on the Bridge card game, of all things) and appreciate the efforts of producing a show - I've helped many podcasters in various forums and would be happy to provide you advice and counsel if the situation should arise. Thanks again for your great show - you're certainly accomplishing your mission to promote communication, networking, education, and the advancement of wedding video. Warm Regards, Michael
IRiver Question from Jorge in Puerto Rico This is Jorge from Puerto Rico. Congratulations on your podcast, it brings a lot of motivation to all new videographer around the world like me. THANKS. I was listening to your latest podcast about that big wedding event with 103 cameras, and I was amazed the way Kathy and you give us a tour thru the whole process, when I was hearing the podcast I was imagine on my mind the whole thing, and I was amaze. My question is that I notice that this whole podcast was made using an i-River and I heard in one podcast that one videographer use a couple of this things to get the audio that sometimes our cameras don’t get. I was wondering, does this i-Rivers come compatible with MAC or they are only for PC. If they are compatible with MAC, which one do you recommend for me for my wedding videographer business? Please give me choices, more than one, which is best which is not. Make a comparison if you can or tell me were could I find more information. The other thing that I like to know is HOW do they work. DO I plug them to my camera or I just put it on the groom’s pocket with no mic? Or they use a wireless mic or the mic is inside the i-River? Do the capture is good or excellent for missing audio of a wedding? Do their audio is trustable? Please give us an explanation with details on air or by email, because I would like to buy one and I don’t know were to begin the process. Thank you for all the help you can give me, and keep up the good work, without you and Kathy I would probably be maybe an architect. Thanks a lot and I'll be waiting your reply. From Puerto Rico -Jorge, Videographer Hello Jorge! I'm sorry this response is so late. The trip to Philadelphia for the WEVA Town Meeting, doing recordings there, putting that all together, AND working a full time job, leaves little time left. It is Sunday morning, so with a breather for a little while, I am at your service. First, let me say that all information about iRiver products can be found at www.iriveramerica.com . The unit I have, and have recommended until now has been the iRiver IFP 799 one gig model. It is now, unfortunately, discontinued. I am not familiar with all the newer models, but the things to be looking for are: Flash memory size (a 1 gig or larger will give you up to 16 hours of recording time) Mic/Line In capability (Mic In especially, so you can use an external mic) You will need a good external Lav Mic to use with your iRiver. http://www.giant-squid-audio-lab.com/gs/gs-micline1.html Is a site that many folks purchase their mics from? They make microphones especially for the iRiver. They record an MP3 file, so a MAC can use the file just as easily. You can place them just about anywhere you want to capture additional sound: The Bride's bedroom while she is dressed In the limo when she and Dad are on the way to the Church On Dad as he walks her down the isle On the Podium On the Groom On the Officiate In the Bridal Party Bus In the Bridal Room Capturing consistent Band/DJ audio Capturing Sound bites from Family and Friends And many more Some videographers use as many as four or five iRiver during the course of a wedding day. They are not 100% 'Trustable,' and need to be monitored during the day. But what they get is oftentimes, priceless. Hope this helps, Jorge. Thanks for listening to WedVidTalk, and soon, we'll also be appearing on the WEVA On the Air series of podcasts. One of mine will be "Tech Talk." One of Kathy's will be "In The Biz." Stay tuned! Thanks again, Al Ritondo WedVidTalk.com

Love, June Hi Kathy and Al. Just finished listening to the rest of the pod cast and like the others I felt like I was right there. Thanks also for my interview. I feel so special. Your laughter and caring for others shows in everything you do.Overall our event seemed like a 3 day wonder of excitement. Seeing old friends, meeting new friends was great. Then just watching and listening to so many professional videographers get along so well, makes me proud of the professionals involved. Thank you both for all you have done and for my breakfast Thursday morning. I put on my metal and went to work with it to show it off. Everyone thought it was great and even clients coming to do there taxes asked about it. What a great few days we all had. Tired, but happy. Thanks again for everything. Love June
Stay Connected - Tim Dear Kathy and Al, I am now officially addicted to listening to your podcast! Your show reminds me of listening in on a conversation at the back lot of a WEVA Expo. I love your show because it helps me stay connected to the industry and focused on my business. I live in Montana so, at times, I can feel isolated- like no one is doing the type of work I do up here. You guys are genuine folks just interested in learning and growing your businesses just like the rest of us and I like that very much. If you are ever traveling across this beautiful county through Montana on I90 just give me a call when you're coming into Missoula. You will be received with a genuine Videographers welcome from me, a place to stay as you rest up for your continued journey onward, and maybe even some pristine trout fishing, lake swimming, rope swinging, river rapid raging fun! You may need to waterproof your camera though! Tim HI Tim, Thanks so much for your kind words and for listening. Your note hits the nail on the head of exactly what we are trying to accomplish. Our video community is a community but we work in isolation. We're hoping Wedding Video Talk is helping to make our world a little smaller and more connected. And thank you for your wonderful invitation and extension of your hospitality. Sounds like a great idea for a Videographers retreat! Maybe we should think about organizing one of those! Yumm.... Maureen Bacon did some a few years ago specifically for women, unfortunately I didn't know about it and heard about it too late. About the closest we'll come to your neck of the woods is when we'll be on the west coast in Sacramento for the the Sacramento PVA World Record Shootout and workshops in February. We'll be podcasting the event and trying to get them on the air within the day it's recorded. They have such great plans we're very excited for the group and want to show our support of a fellow Local Association. Plus it is our Anniversary so we get to be traveling and that's terrific! Tim, please feel free to send ideas for topics you'd like discussed and we'll be sure to get right on it. Just that vision you paint of Montana will put a smile on my face as I fall asleep tonight. Thanks in advance, for the pleasant dreams. Wishing you all the best, Kathy Kathy Ritondo Host/Producer Wedding Video Talk www.wedvidtalk.com kathy@wedvidtalk.com
Thanks - Jerome I will say that I really enjoy your podcasts. As a new event videographer all the info that you and your quest have passed down has been instrumental to my business. Thanks so much and keep up the good work. :-) Jerome
No HD For Me Thanks for the info but I have no interest in blueray or HD for that matter. About 1 out of 500 brides have HD equipment at home to even view an HD DvD Disc and so far, I have had no one to date asking whether or not we shoot in HD let alone blueray. This Technology will not truly enter the Wedding world for at least another 5 to 7 years. Remember, the average TV set is 7 years old and about 60% still have the old curved screen TVs mated with a cheapo DvD player from Sanyo or Apex with no progressive scan capability. Have a good day, Joe.
Craig: What Are You Doing? Al, Every time I visit the WedVidTalk homepage the same question pops into my mind? What are you doing in that picture? You appear to be holding a PD-170/150 in your right hand but in your left hand you appear to be holding something connected to the back of the camera? What is that? PLEASE satisfy my curiosity and tell me what you are doing/demonstrating in that picture. Thank You, Craig Manchester, NH Hi Craig, Thanks for listening and checking out the website. The camera I was holding was a PD-150. What I'm holding in my other hand is the strap for the camera. I find it helps me stabilize the camera more, you know, keep the camera steady. I also use a monopod, a Steadistick, and of course, a tripod. Each one of these methods has their advantages, and also keeps the shots interesting! Best, Al Ritondo
Thanks Al & Kathy, About six months ago I stumbled across your show (found you listed in a PodCast directory). Your show is always informative and the insights are valuable, even to those of us who aren't directly in wedding videography (I'm a pianist and DJ btw). I'm a huge fan. Warmly, Kev
Chuck from Coast to Coast Dear Al & Kathy, Where do I begin?! I went to my first WEVA convention in 2005. It was a fire hose of information, probably too much at once. Thank the Lord for i-rivers! Your show is like WEVA with a fireside chat (I was going to say WEVA on melatonin, but that didn't sound quite right): casual & easily absorbed, but not boring! Some wood crackling in the background might be just the thing. Scot Sheely was a wealth of information. I’ve listened to him more than a few times. We (the Coast to Coast Video team) picked up Gary Kleiner’s Vegas 6.0 training DVDs as a result of your program. Good stuff! And Randy Stubbs, what can you say? I saw him at WEVA and got some great tips there. It wasn’t until afterwards when our team heard him again on WedVidTalk that we picked up his DVDs, and once again came up levels in our videography and editing. WHEW! I say all that to say – keep it com'in! You’re a blessing to the videography world. Chuck, from Coast to Coast Video Productions, Santa Rosa Beach, FL Videographer & Editor (aren't we all)
Keep Up the Good Work Hey Kathy and Al, Chris from Watson Videography here. Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed your podcasts. Great idea. Keep up the good work. Chris
First Wedding in HDV Hello and great show guys. I have been listening to a few shows and have learned a lot. I know you probably have a lot of emails so I will keep mine brief. I recently shot my nieces wedding on a sony HDV FX1 camera. I edited it on Final Cut Pro. I have been considering getting into video production as a new career and was wondering if you would look at a short 7 minute clip and tell me what you think of it from your perspective as veterans in the industry. Now, I know you might roll your eyes and say, "oh no, not another one" but I promise its not shaky, non-cohesive video. Plus, I edited it reality-show style and there seems to be a lot of interest in shooting weddings like that. So, please? Pretty please take a look? Omar Amaro Fort Lauderdale, FL Hi Omar, Thanks for listening. Send us the link and we'll take a look! Happy Holidays. Kathy & Al
A Friend in Frankfurt Hi Kathy and Al, some month ago, I was searching for some podcasts about videography and digital video. That was how I found your offering which turned out to very interesting, even I´m not about wedding videography at all. Coincidental I went to New York earlier that year and I watched a wedding videographer at work in Central Park. There were quiet a lot of bridal couples out there that day (all accompanied by photo- and videographers), so I wondered, how it´s possible that so much people seem to make a living out of this. Thanks to your work I know now a lot more about your industry, which is not that much present here in Germany. That very day in Central Park I had my Sony FX1 with me, so I was able to capture some imagery of one event there. I included a still image from the video stream, maybe you know the lady with the videocamera? She appeared to me to be a professional, having to cameras and a assistant with her. Happy holidays from Frankfurt, Jens
The one that Made Kathy Cry Hi Kathy and Al I am a newbie to wedding videography. I found out about your podcasts thru VU a couple months ago. Up until yesterday, I had only had a chance to listen to 2 podcasts. Well yesterday I listened to you guys for about 12 hours! I am from the Nashville, TN area and for the last 2 months I’ve been trying to find some weddings to shoot for free: for the experience, and to use to build a demo. I had been unsuccessful in finding a free wedding. As I’m sure you know, this time of year, weddings tend to slow down in frequency. Well thru VU I met another new videographer who was getting married yesterday. He was looking for someone to shoot his wedding, and to give him the footage so he could edit it. He was getting married in Dayton, OH, which is about 7 hours from Nashville. Being desperate for a wedding to shoot, and not minding driving, I agreed to shoot his wedding. Yesterday morning I left my house at 5am to drive to Dayton. Accompanying me on my trip was 12 hours of wedvidtalk! I just played the episodes in chronological order. As luck would have it, the last two episodes I listened to were the ones with Evan Lipsman, where you guys had him take you thru a wedding ceremony shoot. Listening to those podcasts was a great review before a final exam. Unfortunately, once the wedding started, I didn’t remember everything you and Evan had said. I made several mistakes, but it was a good learning experience. Shooting a wedding is a lot harder than non-videographer would think. I’m sure it will take many weddings before I become comfortable, but I’m excited about the road ahead. After the ceremony I headed to the reception hall. On the radio I heard that some bad weather was coming in to the area: sleet, ice, and snow. Frank, the groom, had told me that he didn’t expect me to stay for the reception. I had told him that I would stay as long as I could. Once I got to the reception I shot footage of the hall, food tables, wedding cake, gift table etc… I went out to my car to get a tripod and the ice had started coming down. The reception was about to begin with a sit-down dinner. I knew dinner and toasts would probably last at least an hour and I couldn’t afford to get stranded up in Dayton overnight as I had to work today. The groom had brought one of his camcorders, so I quickly showed one of his friends how to operate the camera and set it on a tripod. I informed the groom that I had to leave and that his friend would do the best he could getting some footage. I really hated leaving, but had now choice. Anyways, with the weather, the ride home was very slow. Lots of accidents along the road. I started up the wedvidtalk episodes again and listened to them during the ride home. Once I made it south of Cincinnati the sleet and ice turned to rain and the driving conditions improved. About two hours from home I started getting pretty tired. It was about this time the podcast with Anthony Francese came on. He was so energetic and engaging that I perked right up and was able to make it home safely. I pulled into my driveway at 2am. What a day! Anyways, you guys kept me company on a long car ride and I learned a lot in the process. Thank you for what you are doing. I am so fortunate, being a newbie, to have resources available like wedvidtalk. I hope to meet you all in person one day. Are you by chance going to the 4Evergroup Expo on Orlando next month? I am going to try to attend. Based on your advice, I am also trying to find out if there is an active local videographers association in my area. Thanks again for Wed Vid Talk.Regards,David
Monopod Question Hello Al and Kathy, Great show and hello from California! You have clearly hit the mark with this terrific resource for event and wedding videographers. Quick question: in a past show you briefly mentioned a quick release monopod that you use. Would you please send me the manufacturer and model number? I`m in the market right now. One concern is the ability to potentially share the quick release plate with a corresponding tripod head-unit if possible. I`m wondering if that question also went into your considerations as you were researching monopods? Thanks again! Keep up the great work on your show! Rick Rick, Both our monopods, (a simple one, and our Steadipod) have Bogen 3160 fluid heads that come with a quick release plate already. Hope this helps. Thanks for listening! --Al
Thanks guys! You are doing a wonderful job. I appreciate all of your efforts! Tim New Creation Productions Missoula, MT
New to the Industry Hi, I`ve just rececently started taping weddings and I found your podcast show and i think it`s great. I`m only up to the May episodees right now but they are a great way to pass the time on long drives and because of work i have hour long drives all the time. I really enjoy hearing about editing and shooting style and how to deal with the clients or officiants. I like hearing a veteran in the industry talk about a technique he uses and I use the same technique and it lets me know i`m doing things right. I`d like to make some suggestions for the show but since i`m still listening to shows from 6 months ago my suggestions may have already been done. Well keep it up, we`re enjoying listening. Jim
Withdrawals! Replaying old shows, and Love `em - but I`m starving for the next one. Craig-
Sharon I enjoyed exploring your site this afternoon and just finished listening to your podcast interview with Khoi. What you`re offering on the web site is fantastic! Thanks for your efforts and continued commitment to our industry. Best, Sharon Sharon Russell Phipps Westside Production House Fort Worth, Texas V.P./DFW-PVA
Bakari - First Time Listener Dear Kathy,Thanks so much for the work you and your husband are doing. I haven`t had a chance to listen to the last four or five shows yet--I don`t have an iPod or other portable MP3 player yet, so I listen to your shows on my iTunes when I`m doing the type of work where I can listen to talk and do work at the same time.Your show is very much needed for not only beginners like myself struggling to grow my vid. business, but it`s also important for helping improve the profession in general. I`m beginning to see higher quality work on the part of videographers that I think in long run will increase the market interest for wedding and event productions. As a result of listening to one of your guests talk about posting entire wedding videos on the internet for her clients, I got the idea of posting excerpts and highlights of my clients` videos on my Apple`s .mac account. While the layout of .mac pages are not as classy as I would like them to be, I can easily upload segments of movies I`m working on directly from my iMovieHD--a program that I find works better for me than even Final Cut. It`s fast and straight forward. By posting these excerpts to my personal homepage my objective is to give my clients a taste of what is to come and for them to share the posted production with their friends and family. Unlike the demos that would be posted on my business website, these excerpts would be changed on a regular basis as I get and complete new jobs. Plus, it would be easier to post directly from my editing bay. My clients would also feel that I`m not just using their video to sell my business but to offer them another service. As you can see, I`m still working on my video production craft. I`m beginning to watch and study more and more professional demos and keep notes on techniques and strategies I will practice and try in my next productions. My work is not where I want it to be, but I`ve improved along the way. Thanks for reading such a long reply.Look forward to hearing more of your shows.Sincerely yours,Bakari
Videographers In Distress Fund I am happy to report that the Videographers in Distress Fund will be issuing the first wave of grants to eligible videographers on Friday 9/30/05. These grants are being issued directly from the “Foundation for the Mid South” and have been made possible by generous donations from several industry sources including videographers, local associations, WEVA International and assorted business partners. We still have a lot of work ahead of us. If you have not yet taken the time to make a donation, please do so now as www.weva.com/dri. Your continued support will be vital in helping our colleagues in need . If you are an event videographer that has experienced a loss as a result of the recent Gulf Coast Disaster, we invite you to submit a request for aid at www.weva.com/dri. Together we can all make a difference. Tim Sudall Chairman, Disaster Relief Committee.

Love Stories and Horror Stories - Listener Review Hi Kathy,Just listened to your Love Stories podcast. You guys did a super job. Kathy, your voice was like silk. Al, with his directors touch had me listening to the very last song. Your best duo show yet!Your timing with the love story walk-thru was perfect. We are trying to kick-it-up-a-notch with offering more love stories and you guys helped provide us with more tools.Just ordered Randy Stubbs complete DVD teaching set, thanks for pointing out a real pro.In closing I would love to have your list of questions for the audio interviews. Vicki Hi Kathy, This is a great idea. Good job.
Tony (Cont..) So I would like to hear your guests talk about how they started their business. What challenges they had to overcome, how they structured and restructured their time, small business taxes, equipment depreciation, and converting to HD. Oh yeah, most important of all topics is this one: Let's say you're editing a wedding and at one and /or many points you decide to get a little creative. Being creative translates to having to learn something new. How much time does a person allow for this creative inspiration or does the successful videographer stick to a rigid editing schedule? I want to know. :) Is that a long enough list? I heard about you on WEVA. Thanks Again,
Tony Hello again, My comment about the show notes wasn't intended as a suggestion. It was intended as a compliment. Your existing show notes are fine. The topics talked about that weren't on the show notes were a pleasant surprise. Knowing this, it makes me want to listen to each and every podcast. One person's single comment about using external hard drives, or the hours they might spend on editing, can inspire. As far as topics I'd like to hear, I haven't hung out my small business shingle yet and I'm more than a little scared to get started right now. Scared of equipment purchasing, creating packages, completing final product in timely manner. (cont..)
Alan & Debbie Hi Kathy & Al, We do not own an iPod but we do have an iRiver MP3 player & recorder (which many WEVA members are using as field audio recorders). So could you please refer to the podcast as a rivercast instead?Best Regards,
Alex (cont..) The sound scenes that you are preparing to do seems like it is exactly that. I would be interested in hearing more about the type of equipment you use, from the audio and video equipment to the lighting to the editing equipment. I would also be interested in hearing more about what you look for to shoot and how you decide how to shoot it. I guess that, basically, I just want to hear what you have to say about what you do, such as War stories, beliefs on what is important and not important, etc. I look forward to hearing more from you both on my MP3 player.
Alex Hi, I am a video hobbyist. I have been reading a lot about DV and nonlinear editing since about the time it became possible for a hobbyist to begin to afford the equipment. I have had an opportunity lately to actually begin doing things with DV video. I am excited to have the opportunity to find out more about what someone who works with video for a living thinks about. I have a feeling that you will very soon be doing exactly what I want to hear! I would love to get a behind-the-scenes look at what a professional videographer does. (cont..)
Dan Coooooooooooooooooooooool Kathy, Congratulations.
John Podcast? You guys are too hip for me? :) Hope you two are well. Thanks!
Kris I think it's way COOL!! Who knew you and Al were up to this? I look forward to seeing how this progresses. Looks like you and Al both lost weight (if you don't mind me saying). You and Al make a good team. How exciting!!
Russ Very, very coolio!!!!!! Great concept.
Alex Al and Kathy, I have really enjoyed listening to your podcasts. They have been interesting and informative, even the one where you went to buy chairs! I was hoping to hear your latest podcast (May 15) and found that it was listed on your website but not in the RSS feed at ipodder.org. Maybe I'm just too impatient to wait for it. I don't know if you are aware of it but the links to the mp3 files of your podcasts from April 24 and later all lead to the April 24th podcast. Keep up the good work. It is fascinating listening to you both as you talk about your experiences and as your learn more about podcasting and walk everyone through it. Thanks for putting forth the effort.
Elgin I went to wedvidtalk.com I think I might get hooked. It made it feel like someone is here with me while I am here working on the computer. Regards,
Tim did check out your new Podcast, very koooool. I listen to Jodis interview and it was great. I hope to listen to them all in the next week. Keep up the good work. Best Regards,
Tim Congratulations! Looks Great!
Gary The site looks very good.
Cliff Way to go. I hope it takes off for you!
Jim Congrats Kathy and Al! I listened to your pod casts on your site. I think it's a great new way to get info out there and to learn. All the best on your pod casting! -- John Kathy and Al, Just wanted to tell you that I already listened to your first 3 programs. I found them both informative and VERY entertaining. You two remind me of the Doland's on AM radio - married couple that gave/give financial advise. You really compliment each other and your love for each other is very apparent. Good Luck!
Alain Hi: I like the Flash intro on your site very much but after it repeating on every page I click on it become annoying. How about using that Flash intro as you main index page and add an enter button to enter your site. Thanks
Tony Hi, Is there a way to turn off new page music? It is distracting while listening to podcasts and clicking on your links. Thank you for creating this site. It's awesome! There is nothing like listening to people talk in great detail about what you love to do. The titles for the individual podcasts are a little misleading. It was a pleasant surprise to listen to a podcast as it went off into so many different topics (too many to list in one title). I especially like when you ask about work habits (technical and husband & wife team aspects). You are providing a great service. I wish for you great success!
Dave Yep - I liked #3. I started about 15 minutes into #4, but I've gotten sidetracked for the rest of the evening. I love the whole concept of the podcasting - keep it up!
Eric I was wondering how long it would take for this to happen! Glad to see someone's doing it, and would love to do a story on it for the June issue of EventDV magazine. Would it be possible to set a time later this week to chat on the phone for an interview - either you, Al, or both? We received this press release just as we're coming up on the June deadline: hate to rush you, but the sooner we could talk, the better. Thanks,
Dave I have to say I enjoyed podcast #1. But then came podcast #2. (Cue the wind, thunder and rain effects.) Yikes. That's 31 minutes of my life I will never get back! :-) I'm looking forward to #3, which I am about to embark on. These things are fun!
Dan All I can say is WOW! I have to get back here and listen to your podcast. I'm presently podless but I assume I can just listen on the site
John Thank you...I hope things are going well for you guys...Seems like they are!!!
